Taste of Home Announces Winners of First-Ever Best Loved Brands
Taste of Home’s Test Kitchen All-Stars Select Their 25 Favorite Brands
MILWAUKEE, WI (August 16, 2016) – Taste of Home, the leading food, cooking and entertaining media brand, announced today its first-ever Best Loved Brands. The list was curated by the Taste of Home editorial team and Test Kitchen experts, who receive thousands of recipes each year that have been shared by real home cooks from across the country. They select, test, taste and edit every submission, transforming family favorites and memories into step-by-step recipes fans can re-create in their own kitchens. With that expertise in hand, Taste of Home is honoring and celebrating their Best Loved Brands – the behind-the-scene stars of the kitchen.
The 25 categories were selected based on the most frequent, go-to ingredients and appliances used in the Taste of Home test kitchen, where three test cooks, three prep cooks and one culinary assistant sift through approximately 10,000 submitted recipes a year. Those Taste of Home Test Kitchen experts average 200 grocery trips per year to purchase the 450 lbs. of butter, 600 lbs. of flour, 300 lbs. of sugar, 200 lbs. of cream cheese and 100 lbs. of chocolate chips needed to test the approximately 2,000 recipes that are featured in Taste of Home’s array of digital and print products annually. To do that, the test kitchen is also stocked with 20 stand mixers, 22 ovens, 10 stovetop ranges, more than 350 different sizes and shapes of cookie cutters, and more than 5,000 small appliances and prep tools.
Test Kitchen experts evaluated the products based on four criteria:
- Product Performance – Does the taste/flavor, appearance, and/or texture/consistency enhance the flavor of our readers’ recipes? Is the appliance well-made and high-performing at various cooking tasks?
- Availability – Can we find the product in nearby grocery stores? Is the product distributed nationally?
- Reliability – Is it a trustworthy, leading brand that delivers consistent quality?
- Price – Is the product fairly priced?
“The Taste of Home staff reviews, tests and cooks thousands of recipes a year. It’s an important role, and it’s this dedication that ensures our audience of 82 million real home cooks can create the same amazing flavors in their own kitchens. So who better to weigh in the very best products than our editors and Test Kitchen experts, who are in the kitchen every day to evaluate, edit and select the perfect recipes,” said Catherine Cassidy, Taste of Home Editor-in-Chief. “Every home cook has his or her favorite brand or go-to appliance, and we hope these brands inspire our readers and fans to keep cooking great food that they can enjoy with their families.”
